Whenever Karl Lagerfeld presents something UK-related for Chanel, I get excited, (i.e. Pre-Fall 2008 Paris-London collection). For Pre-Fall 2013, yes we're already there again, Lagerfeld offered up some of the most beautiful designs I've seen for Chanel in a very long time. This season he took his fashion circus to Linlithgow Palace in Scotland, just outside of Edinburgh, where Mary Queen of Scots was born. Scottish influences were abundant, with classic kilt silhouettes, very Renaissance-inspired puff sleeve blouses, fair isle knits, and essentially layer after layer. The designs ranged from looks that could be very modern day, or worn in say, the Elizabethan era. The last several looks, which were my favorite, were all incredible cream colored gowns, reminiscent of what Queen Elizabeth herself, or perhaps Mary Queen of Scots could have worn.

The Chanel Metiers-d'Art collections are always interesting and a spectacle, but this season the designs felt wonderful and not contrived again. Also, the footwear was all flat, which made the silhouettes true to the culture and style of the country. There were laced up hiking boots in leather, fur, and other fabrics, and there were also little pointed boots and flats that were very modern, but somehow worked with the collection. The black pointed flat zip boots were my favorite, those could definitely be worn on the street with a little dress, and almost be worked into a 60s London look. Overall, Lagerfeld presented something that was very ornate and beautiful, but also when picked apart, things could actually be worn, well at least most of the simple plaid garments layered throughout the collection.
